I wasn’t going to bother doing Skip Tax because it sounded complicated but after reading other peoples experiences using it, I thought I’d give it a go and received £49.86p back from my purchases.

What is Skip Tax?

Skip Tax is a digital tax refund company that allows you to reclaim your Tax whilst in France.

What do I need to do?

Download the Skip Tax app on your smart phone before you leave and register. You will be asked to take a photo of your Passport and take a selfie for the identification checks.

When shopping in France, you will need to keep your receipts for the purchases you have brought. We went there specifically for Disneyland Paris and they have a special arrangement so the receipts are automatically ready for scanning.

Anywhere else, you will need to ask for the receipt to be invoiced to Skip Tax, you can read up more about this on the website.

Keep all of your receipts until you are finished shopping. Anything eaten and drunk or fuel can not be be claimed back

In order to use Skip Tax you will need to have spent a minimum of €100 this does not have to be on one single purchase and can include multiple purchases.

They say to keep all receipts and keep the tags on your new items just in case they ask to see. We took all of our purchases in and was not checked. I have also heard that unless its a big tax refund then they don’t bother checking.

Where is the Pablo machine located?

If using the Le Shuttle the Pablo ‘Detaxe’ machine is located in the services just passed check in. You will need to go straight to the back where there are multiple machines and a customs office.

If you are flying there is a row of ‘Pablo’ kiosks where you can scan your barcode. If you are not sure, ask someone to point you in the right direction.

If you are traveling via Eurostar the PABLO ‘Detaxe’ kiosks are located after security in the waiting lounge.

If you are traveling by port there are Pablo terminals at the port of Calais.

Also, the app will show you where the closest machine is to your location.

How do I get my refund?

I kept every single receipt where purchases from the shops were made. You simply go into the Skip Tax app and ‘Start a new tax refund’, this is where you would input your arrival and departure date.

Then go to the Add an invoice button. You will need to take a photo of the receipt, one at a time. On the next part it will ask you to pop in the total amount on the receipt and then the Tax taken which is easy to find on the receipt.

Once you have added everything it will generate a barcode for you which you will then have to take to a Pablo ‘Detaxe’ Kiosk inside the Le Shuttle service station. You must still be in France when scanning this.

Upon setting up the App it will ask you how you would like your tax refunded back to you either straight into your bank or PayPal and you would then enter your details of your preferred method.

We chose to have to have the tax refunded back directly into my bank account so we didn’t need to do anything else after this.

Within 12 hours my refund was in my bank account, it was so easy to do and I am glad I took the time to do it.

Any money saved is helpful and now we can put it towards our next visit.
