AD | Fit fortnight with Hotter shoes

My First pair of Hotter Shoes

We have had a Hotter store in Peterborough for quite a long time now and I would never have considered stepping foot inside until I went to my first blog on event back in May 2018. I had always remembered their shoes being quite plain looking and aimed towards the older generation.

They had a stand last year showcasing their latest range and as I browsed through them I was pleasantly surprised by how much they had changed and how stylish they looked. So when they contacted me to tell me that I had been selected to visit my local branch between the 13th -23rd of May for Fit Fortnight and to pick a pair of shoes of my choice, I was very happy to oblige.

The Fit Fortnight campaign is designed to help customers find perfectly fitting shoes by measuring their feet and providing expert advice. Their shoes come in sizes 3 to 9 with some half sizes and extra width fitting options so you’ll be sure to find the best Hotter shoe for you.

I was greeted by Adam who is the store manager for the Peterborough branch, he would also be the person measuring my feet that day.

I can honestly say that I felt completely comfortable through my fitting experience and Adam was a gem. You can clearly see he loves his job and has a wealth of knowledge of Hotter and the footwear industry in general.

The Knight Tribe -Hotter Peterborough

Some people have a phobia when it comes to feet and it can be very difficult and awkward for them to do something so simple as getting their feet measured properly. I must admit, I was feeling a bit nervous myself and I don’t have a foot phobia, I also have never had my feet measured before as an adult.

Fortunately, I had been wearing the correct size which was reassuring to know but what I didn’t know was that I have one foot bigger and wider than the other foot, which would explain why I could never wear stiletto shoes without a strap across my ankle otherwise my left foot would fall out of it.

I tried on two different styles of shoes, the first pair was the Shake shoes in Grey/floral which I fell in love with, however, I decided against these FOR now mainly because another style had caught my eye which was the Jewel shoes in meadow floral/pebble grey.

As soon as I saw the Jewel shoes I knew they were the ones for me because A. I love the style, colour and print of them and B. I wear skinny Jeans a lot of the time and they would look amazing paired together. C. You can wear them everyday casual or dress them up if you are going out.

Breaking them in

The first week I wore my new shoes every other day for about an hour each time and they did rub on my left foot (my bigger foot) however, I was expecting this to happen because It always does when I break in a new pair of shoes.

I have had no further blisters or sores since.

They are so light and comfortable that I wear them pretty much every day now except for when it is raining and that is only down to not wanting wet feet.

I have received so many compliments on my new shoes and a few people have even been surprised to hear that they are from Hotter, a local friend and mum has also gone and brought her self the same shoes after seeing mine.

Lucky Fortune – WEAR YOUR LUCK & COMPETITION

Crack ’em, Wear ’em, Find your Luck and Share ’em

Lydia and I had a really fun day together in London to celebrate the launch of WowWee’s brand new, exciting, collectable toy cookies.

What is Lucky Fortune?

Lucky Fortune are toy fortune cookies that include a surprise bracelet with a charm inside and a paper fortune for good luck.

They are set to be the coolest and luckiest collectable must-have for the stylish fan.

In series one, there are 100 different bracelets to collect with four levels of rarity, as well as the desired ultra lucky real gold-dipped four-leaf clover.  The Lucky fortune cookies also double up as a key chain for little keepsakes. Lydia and Emily love key chains and have decided to attach theirs to their school bags and have given mummy one for her keys.

I love everything about these charm bracelets and what they promote, they look gorgeous and you can tell that a lot of love, thought and imagination has gone into creating and designing these from the charm itself down to the fortune cookie fastener and the little beads on the end to stop them falling apart.

When someone mentions charm bracelet, you instinctively think of girls jewellery, don’t you? Well, not these. As you can see from the collectors guide below, there are plenty of unisex charms to collect. Even mum and dad can wear them. (I love wearing mine)

Next, to each charm on the collector’s guide, there is a sparkle that is coloured in either white, pink or orange and this will tell you how lucky you are.

Where can I buy them?

They will be available to buy from Smyths Toystore from June and can be purchased in a single pack for £4.99 or in a pack of four for £14.99

The Launch

The launch was brilliant! Lydia had been counting down the days and couldn’t ‘wait to find out more about what this exciting new trend was about; especially as they are brand new in the UK.

The room was beautifully decorated in purple balloons and Lucky Fortune backdrops for plenty of photo opportunities. The tables were set up for a selection of different activities for the children to take part in.

  • There were two tables set up especially for the children to ‘un-box’ the Lucky Fortune cookies.
  • Sweet and cake table
  • Hair station
  • Nail station
  • Face/ hand painting
  • They could also have their fortune told by a real-life fortune teller in the form of a genie, which Lydia thought was amazing.

How Lucky Fortune was born

I got to ask the creator of Lucky Fortune’s Sydney Wiseman how she came up with the Idea of collectable charm bracelets in fortune cookies and here is her answer.

I was eating Thai food with my sister in Montreal, and they give fortune cookies at the end of the meal! I’ve always been superstitious and I got a paper fortune I loved and I went to save it in my wallet (I usually do that with the good ones!) and as I was doing it… I was like “wait..fortune cookie..great blind device..saving your luck..what could we make that’s unique to come in a fortune cookie that’s not another character collectable that will empower kids! And make them feel extra lucky!”

And then I thought small pretty charm bracelet! I also felt very strongly about making it a bracelet program vs a charm bracelet programme so that you can wear a lot of luck on your sleeve! Vs one bracelet with lots of charms (I felt that was a tad overdone too!)

We also got to meet some of our fellow Instagram and Youtube friends, which was pretty awesome too.

Lydia was really excited to tell her little sister Emily all about her day and to share her goody bag with her. You can watch their Un-boxing video below.

The Knight Tribe | Weekly Updates

Week 1

The knight tribe on a field

-Finally had my follow up Blood test.

I suffer badly with Health Hypochondria and earlier this year I decided I didn’t want to take my sertraline tablets anymore because they were making me so hot and uncomfortable amongst other side effects, so instead of weaning my self off them I just stopped. The withdrawal was awful, I felt sick, dizzy, had mouth ulcers, spaced out, tired, it felt like I was floating or the room was spinning. I said to my family and friends I wonder if this is similar to what an addict feels like as I knew all I needed to do for it to stop was to take my tablets.

I went to the doctors because I thought I was dying and understandably got told off for just stopping my medication. They wanted to take a blood sample to make sure nothing else was going on which then got my anxiety levels up even more. I had the blood test the next morning and I was so scared for the results I was calling every two hours to see if they were back yet. I explained to the lady on the phone about my health anxiety and she was very understanding and asked me to call back after 3 pm. I called back to be told they had come back slightly abnormal and she couldn’t tell me any more so she had asked the doctor to call me back within the hour to explain. In between that short space of time I had literally made my self sick from panicking and was pacing up and down like a mad man.

The Doctor had explained that my white blood cells were a little lower than the normal range because of how I had stopped my medication and that I should re-test in six weeks to make sure they are all back to normal.

Well, nine maybe ten weeks later I had finally plucked up the courage to re-book my test in. I was so scared that there was something seriously wrong with me that I didn’t even want to go and find out.

I plucked up the courage to go and have it redone on Monday and they came back normal- Phew.

-Walked to school instead of driving.

I am so lazy that I drive to school, which is pointless because it actually takes longer to get the girls strapped in the car then it does drive to the school. We live less than two minutes away in the car and about a 10-15 minute walk depending on how slow they want to be, so this week I decided I would get ready a little quicker, leave a little earlier and I managed to walk with them most mornings.  We all loved the fresh air and I worked out that from my house to school and back is just over four thousand steps.

-Walked to the Gym -Big one for me.

The next day I walked to school and back again and then decided I would take a big step and walk the short journey to the gym ( when I say short I mean literally ten minutes if that). If you don’t know why this was such a big step for me then you can read why here. It was the first time in three years that I had stepped outside of my comfort zone with no dog with me completely on my own. I was armed with my alarm, my anxiety was high and my heart was beating super fast… but I DID IT.

-Lost my phone.

The ironic thing about this one is that I was actually wearing my Syndey backpack from Mia Tui at the time. My friend Shannon came round at 2.30pm ready for a slow walk to school. I picked up my phone and put it in my back pocket and we walked to school, when I got home I realised it had gone and I couldn’t even phone it to see if it was in the house as both my mum and Leo had no credit and I had thrown away our house phone a few weeks before. Shannon tried calling it but it was off (battery was low anyway so must have died). We retraced our steps back to school. I felt strongly that it wouldn’t be found but I was due some good Karma so remained optimistic. Unfortunately, it was definitely gone but as a silver lining, it is insured and I had hit 13k steps by 4 pm which never blooming happens.

Thanks to my little sister I have also recovered all of my photos from the phone on my google drive. Thanks, Jay

-Had my eyes tested, finally.

Again, another one that I had been putting off for a long long time because I thought I had something seriously wrong going on inside my eyes.  My mum, sister and friend had all given me a pep talk the weekend before when we were at soft play which got me off my arse to get these things checked out and ticked off.

I do have a pair of glasses which were prescribed to me about five years ago for watching TV, driving and computer work. I very rarely wore these because; 1. I just kept forgetting I had them, 2. I went for style over comfort and the small frames kept pissing me off and 3. I didn’t really NEED to wear them as they were just a little aid for when I got tired.

This last year I have noticed my left eye getting worse, not bad, but enough for me to notice that when I am watching TV I am finding my self rubbing my eyes to try and clear them if that makes sense. The font on the laptop isn’t as sharp to see in my left eye as it is in my right eye.

So I booked myself an eye test, went along to the appointment where they recommended glasses. My prescription is nothing compared to most peoples but enough to annoy me, so this time I chose bigger frames as well as some prescription sunglasses.  I do feel ripped off though because I didn’t necessarily need to wear them and it had just cost me £99… But it is another thing checked off my list.

Swimming

Leo, Lydia and Emily all attend weekly swimming lessons and are all progressing well. Emily is like a little pocket rocket the way she kicks her legs to swim. Lydia is doing really well and is becoming more confident going under water. Leo is doing amazing with his lessons considering a year ago he would have freaked out if water had so much of touched his face.  The girls have their lessons together and Leo does a disability class on a different day so, whilst the girls are doing theirs, David and I are in the main pool helping Leo with therapy.

Football

Leo started a Disability football club back in January and looks forward to going weekly. It’s run by our local football club and this particular group is just for kids with additional needs. His grandad (Farthy) comes to watch him every week and Leo loves seeing him there supporting him. His confidence with football has definitely improved since joining and he has made some new friends and reunited with an old friend who he has known since they were both toddlers. They went primary school together and then separated at secondary to be reunited at football.

Ballet

Ballet is my chilled forty-five minutes. Emily started this class back in March and really looks forward to going. Her favourite film is Ballerina and she aspires to be like Felicie from the film who works hard and achieves her dreams. I brought her some Ballet bars of our local facebook selling page and she is always practising on them.

Majorettes

This week at Majorettes the girls had their inter-troupe competition which is a fun laid back competition where the girls get to choose a piece of equipment and show off for 30 seconds in front of three judges. The little majorettes got paired up with the big majorettes for the second half and they got to perform a routine that they had made up themselves. They all had a good time and Lydia won 2nd place for her solo.

Reading

Emily has started to read us bedtime stories most nights now. I love how much she enjoying reading now and how hard she is trying with blending the sounds together and trying different books. Lydia has been begging me for the ‘Snail and the Whale’ book this week so we surprised her with it after school on Friday and she hasn’t put it down since.

AD | How to Inject Some Body Confidence Into Your Life

There’s no doubt about it; women are under a lot of pressure to look a certain way. The media floods us with images of ultra-slim ladies, then as soon as we visit Facebook or Instagram, there are yet more images of females with flawless skin, perfect pouts and immaculate tans.

It’s enough to make a woman weep – which is why it’s so important to fight to be more body confident. Here are a few handy tips.

Getting body confident

  • Remember, it’s not reality. This is so important to keep in mind. Those images of smooth, unlined faces? They’ve been photoshopped. That model who looks so slender in that Twitter photo? She’s standing at a specific angle, and is sucking her belly in. This isn’t real. Real is wobbly bits, wrinkles, discoloured patches and hair in odd places. Don’t let the media convince you otherwise!
  • Happy is far more gorgeous than thin. All humans are hardwired to respond positively to smiling, positive people. If you’re feeling good about yourself, you’ll look fantastic, regardless of whether you’re a size 8 or a size 28. Starving yourself to the point of exhaustion isn’t happiness. Neither is worrying constantly about your spots, or fretting about that loose skin on your stomach.
  • Celebrate the good bits. Take a long, hard look in the mirror. Rather than zoning in on the bits you don’t like about your body, focus on the parts that you love. For example, this might be your curvy bum, or your long, elegant legs. You might have fabulously glossy hair, or cute freckles. Get in the habit of doing this every day, until it becomes second nature.
  • Be kind to yourself. Being too self-critical can lead to a range of health conditions, such as anxiety. Learn to listen to your body. If you’re feeling run-down, perhaps you’re not resting enough, or not eating the right things. If you need a break, take one! If you want to give yourself a bit of a lift, treat yourself to something, like a spa day with a friend, or a new perfume from somewhere like the Copycat Fragrances shop. Your body deserves respect – from yourself as well as others.
  • Your body deserves respect. Remember to incorporate regular body self-care into your routine, whether it’s a peaceful walk in nature or indulging in a calming meditation session. Additionally, consider exploring options like mobile IV services for a convenient and personalized approach to nourishing your body
  • Wear the clothes you wouldn’t normally dare to. It’s time to get a bit feisty. Who says you can’t wear a bikini after having kids? Who suggested that funky leather jackets could only be worn by those under 50? If you want to wear it, go for it. Ignore naysayers and haters. Any unkind comments usually come from those that have their own insecurities going on.
  • See your body as the amazing thing it is. Your physical self is capable of phenomenal things. It can be trained to run marathons or climb mountains. It powers you through the day. It might have grown babies (which is pretty incredible, when you think about it). It should be regarded as your best friend, not your worst enemy. Learn to love it like it deserves.
